The name, South Bay, stems from its geographic location stretching along the southern shore of Santa Monica Bay. The South Bay contains 15 main cities: Carson, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, + some unincorporated areas of the County of Los Angeles (Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, San Pedro, Westchester, Playa Del Rey, Playa Vista, and Wilmington).
